Introductory Information:

Last year, we were humbled to be invited to the Choirs of America Nationals for Top Choirs event at Carnegie Hall, New York City, from April 15-19 of 2020. You may have heard about this from your child, as we shared the news of this invitation with them mid-year. After doing extensive research and planning, we are pleased to announce that we have officially accepted that invitation! FRHS Choirs take an out of state special trip once every four years, and this time around, we will be singing at Carnegie Hall next April! Students in Sabercat Singers, Chamber Choir, Tenth Bass, and Vox Femina are invited to attend this trip. We are thrilled to have such an amazing opportunity available for our students, and honored to have received this achievement for our program.

Musically, this trip is head and shoulders above anything else offered currently. Choirs from 15 states have been chosen to be a part of this year’s event. The concert at Carnegie Hall has three facets that are unique. First and foremost, FRHS Choirs will have the opportunity to share a set of music in our own time slot at Carnegie Hall. We are also placed into a Mass choir, led by renowned choral conductor Andre Thomas. The students will get the opportunity to rehearse with Dr. Thomas several times in this process, which we are very excited about. To close the concert, all of the choirs will be combined to do the world premiere of a commissioned piece by up-and-coming composer, Brandon Boyd. The day before the concert, we will get to participate in a choral festival at CUNY Queens College for a musically enriching experience. The FRHS Festival Choir will perform their set of music, and be adjudicated by and have a full one hour private clinic with the teaching faculty of Queens College. We will also be a part of observations of choirs from across the US, a workshop called xChange: A Meeting of Voice, and a Broadway 101 Workshop. As you can see, the musical experiences in this trip are at the forefront, and what can be considered “once in a lifetime”.

Not only will students have an incredible musical experience on this trip, they will also have time to see New York City! Here are some of the things we have already included in the trip:

  • Time to shop and visit Times Square

  • FRHS Choir private performance at St. Patrick’s Cathedral

  • 9/11 Museum

  • Visit the One World Trade Observatory (highest point in the city!)

  • Ferry ride to see the Statue of Liberty

  • Time to explore Central Park

  • Time to explore China Town

Also, many of our students are excited about seeing shows on Broadway. Knowing that, we made sure to include not one, but TWO shows in their package! Shows we are considering getting tickets to include:

  • Hamilton

  • Dear Evan Hansen

  • Harry Potter and The Cursed Child

  • Mean Girls

  • Tootsie

  • Hadestown

Many more shows will be available in the upcoming year, and we will get student input about which shows they would like to see before obtaining tickets.

This trip includes all of what you see above, and more, for $2150 per student. Due to the quick turnaround of booking airfare and charter buses, we wanted to get this information out to you as soon as we could, and that happened to be summer! We also wanted to get this out to you as soon as possible because the sooner your family is registered, the sooner you can begin paying, and your payments will be less over time allowing more flexibility.

The travel agency we are using has a handy online module that tracks all of your payments, sends invoices, and receipts, and allows you to pay using a credit card without a fee.

Please follow this link to register your student and begin payment.

Our registration deadline is September 15, but please remember the sooner you register, the lower your payments are over time.

Notes on registration: The timeline on the website was published before the district approved the trip, so feel free to catch up as needed. There are no late fees, but please pay attention to the cancellation dates. When filling in the birthdate, please use the exact format MM/DD/YYYY. When typing in a phone number, please do not use any hyphens/dashes. Just a small note:  please be aware that clicking twice to submit the enrollment will result in being charged for double the amount of the trip (if they are paying by credit card). CLICK ONLY ONCE! 😊

The Payments and Terms are listed to the right above the occupancy packages, and show the payment schedule, cancellation fee schedule, and other conditions of the tour. Information regarding the purchase of trip cancellation insurance is included immediately below the cancellation fee schedule.  Cancellation fees begin on December 17, 2019. Trip cancellation insurance is not necessary prior to that.
